I’m trying to buy my first home and I’m looking into tax breaks or refunds for first time home buyers in the state of Fl. I know there is a tax refund good until June 2009 but I was wondering if there were any more savings or anything else out there I could look for. Thanks.

I am not familiar with a tax refund good thru June. Is that just in Florida?
The federal government has a tax credit up to $8,000 good for first time ( or after 3 years) home buyers if they close before Dec. 1, 2009. This can be obtained by either filing an amended return for last year, or done in 2010 when you file for 2009. Of course if you did not pay at least $8,000 in taxes, then you do not get all of that since it is a credit, not a reward.
know-it-all started off well and then fell flat on his or her face. The First Time Home Buyer Credit is fully refundable. Even if your tax liability was $0 you’d receive a full refund of $8,000 if you purchased a home for $80k or more.
