Should I use estate agents own conveyancers?

Good Conveyancers

I am in the process of selling my property, the estate agents i’m using (Robinson Jackson) have their own in house conveyancers (or a company they are associated with.
Should I use these rather than a normal firm of solicitors? Do you think they would be as thorough as normal solicitors?

I used a conveyancing firm when I last moved and they were brilliant. Much quicker than solicitors had been in my previous experiences of the housing market. The conveyancer did not, though, come attached to the estate agency. I personally would not choose to put my conveyancing eggs in the agent’s basket – they are not to be totally trusted!

If you live near Colchester let me know and I will pass on the contact!

If it’s a simple case then conveyancing is not exactly complicated, so I’m sure the conveyancing company would do a perfectly good job.

If I were you I’d get some quotes from both and try to get a personal recommendation if possible.

So long as they are competent it doesn’t matter. You may want to check on their professional liability insurance cover, though! Solicitors have extensive cover against negligence, mistake, fraud, and so on.
