I was told that maybe it would be best if I tried to rent through the owner of a house and when they do credit checks, are they nationwide searches because I was in Georgia, now I’m in Denver.

Yes it is possible, but difficult.
Depends how long ago the eviction was.
Credit/background checks are national, not limited to one state.
You will have to work at it, apply, apply and apply. Depending on why and how long ago you were evicted, being up front with potential LL may help.
Some LLs will automatically reject you because having an eviction shows your Word is not good, you have broken your legal promises, and have a history of NOT honoring your legal obligations.
Evictions appear on your credit report for 10 years. They also show if you paid it off or not.
You will most likely need to rent from people who do not care about your credit or are otherwise desperate for a renter.
Times are tough, not many landlords will be willing to take a risk on you knowing for a fact that your ethics allow you to take advantage of innocent people.
probably try to rent from an individual that does not run a credit check.

It depends on the requirements of the property owner.
