Insuring leasehold properties?

I have just bought a property and bought building insurance with Halifax. I then received a letter from the leaseholder stating I had to have their insurance under the terms of the lease. It will cost us money to now cancel the policy with Halifax and the conveyancer whom dealt with the property never told us about this nor did the seller. We are refusing to swap the policy as we werent told about this. What are our rights. Would the leasholder take us to court and evict us if we didnt take out their insurance. Would we have a legal case against the conveyancer who dealt with the purchase and also with the sellor who must have known and failed to tell us

Would love to answer you question but just like most of the people here I don’t want to give you incorrect advise. Most situations vary and could have multiple solutions. Check out these pre-paid legal plans. They’re great for situations such as this. People always think they wont ever need a lawyer until situations like this present themselves. Check out to see if any plans available may fit your needs.
