If my landlord gives me a new contract do I need to make a new housing benefit claim?

housing benefit claim

My old contract has my ex partners name on it he is ending this contract March 31st and starting a new one April 1st with just my name on it. He is also increasing the rent on this new contract. My housing benefit is in just my name, I have already changed the benefit to a single claim etc..thats all ok. Now with this new contract do I need to make a new claim.
I am hoping I do as will then be paid via the new method..rather than direct to my landlord.
Thanks

Whenever your circumstances change you should notify Housing Benefit. You can always ask for a housing officer to come and re-avaluate your home to see if you are entitled to extra money, it would’nt do any harm. Also you are allowed to change the way your rent is paid to you. I have my housing benefit paid straight to me through my bank, its great I dont have to cash cheques or make frequent trips to the bank. I would suggest taking the time to phone your Housing Benefit Office and explaining that your circumstances are changing, i.e Change in rent, contract and also the desire to change the way you recieve your benefit. Good luck with it. :)
