If I claim housing benefit would my landlord need to be informed?

housing benefit claim

Hi

We are currently renting a house privately.
Both of us work at the moment but we have a young baby.
If I were to give up work to look after our son full time just leaving my partner working full time I already know that we would be entitled to housing benefit as I have discussed this with our local housing department.

Anyway I digress!

Basically when we saw the house we currently rent advertised in the paper they said no DSS (or basically no people on benefits!)
Obviously at the time we were both working so we went for the house. I don’t really want them to find out that we are on housing benefit if we were to claim.
So my question is would they need to know or could we just claim it and continue to pay them their rent each month? or do the council inform landlords?

Please only answer if you actually know the answer no offense lol!

Many Thanks

  1. 1? ????? ?? ? g??? ?

They have to accept your change of circumstances if you are under tenancy. They cannot throw you out because you have to claim help with benefits. Give them a ring and ask them to come to your house to dicuss things with them.

They do have to know because the council will send a form to the landlord for them to confirm you are living at the address, there is no way you can hide it from your landlord, theyd have to know.

Hope everything works out for you! :O)
