Nope, they will tell you to find something cheaper and more suitable.
yes I think they would help with the rent but be careful they might not pay it all as they might say it’s too large for your needs. but hey it’s better than the streets . you might have to pay towards the rent partly out of your money.
in a word, no – a two bedroom requires a child!
In the UK, housing benefit is worked out on your income. However, they will not pay the whole amount on a two bedroom property for one person living there. We (my wife, child and myself) had a two bedroom house and were told that we were over-accomodating ourselves because we had a dining room.
Yes they will help towards rent but will not pay it all, meaning you could be left paying £10/15 a week.
get a better job and pay for it yourself!
Why should we have to pay for you to have an extra bedroom………. your on housing benefit, don’t expect luxuries – you have to work for those. I am 33 and have been paying a mortgage for 14 years – get yourself a job, get yourself some self respect and stop scrounging of us hard working tax payers – harsh – yeah perhaps, fair – yeah – honest and say what i think without making it all flowery and nice so you hear what you want to hear – definitely not!
Addition: I agree with Rad
If you are entitled to HB, then they will pay a set amount, if you choose a 2 bed property for a higher amount then it will be up to you to pay the balance. Why do you need a 2 bed property if there is only you?
Yes you can claim. It is a means tested benefit, so the amount of help you would get would be dependant on this.
The maximum allowance you will be allowed will be for a 1 bed flat, this varies from local authority to local authority.
You can check the rate for your local authority on
Your allowance is determined by your needs, not the house you rent.
You could rent a 4 bedroom house if you wanted, but will only get help up to the 1 bedroom limit depending on your income, and would have to cover the rest yourself.
If the rent of the property is less than the Local housng allowance rate, you can get up to £15 per week more than the rent, again depending on your income.
