Whilst looking through paperwork from the last time that I remortgaged 2 years ago, I have found a plastic wallet containing actual title deeds to my property sent to me by the previous conveyancer, with a letter stating such. Surely these should have gone to my current lender not me? Im worried that this will cause delays or even extra expense for myself – what should I do? I live in UK.

When you have chosen your solicitor or conveyancer for the next house explain to them what the situation is and they will advise you. I suspect you have a copy of the deeds but there will still be a copy lodged with the Land registry and your mortgage lender.
Some people are now receiving the original title deeds even though they dont own their houses outright. As the details are now being held electronically. This has just happened to my friend. If you have a solicitor. Give them a quick call just to confirm.
I may be wrong so take legal adviseon this.
The title deeds are your property which you own and do not belong to the mortgage company. They normally hold them as security for their loan.
speak to the mortgage lender or a solicitor
I have bought and sold a few houses now, and have always been given the original title deeds to keep. I have never been asked to hand them over to the mortgage provider, I just assumed they were given copies.
