   You don’t just get a check for the $8,000 tax credit. You can file a new W-4 with your employer to reduce withholding for the rest of the year or you can wait until you file your 2008 income tax and get the credit then.

   you get the credit on your income taxes and that’s could be faster than the cash for clunkers

   I believe it takes about 12 weeks to get paid once you amend your 2008 return.

   Due to backlogs, the IRS is now saying 12-16 weeks for an amended return to get processed.

   Even though you are closing your house in 2009, you can amend the 2008 tax return.
