Try getting a job and stop relying on other taxpayers to fund your life.
There should be no housing benefit. The rest of us work and pay our own bills.
Normally you can only claim it from the date you send in the forms. You have to have really good reasons for badckdating eg you were in hospital after an accident and the benefits office will decide each case on its merits. Saying you didn’t know you were entitled is not a good enough reason. If they decide your reasons are good enough, they also decide how far back they will go, up to one year
everyone else is telling you to get a job – are you on a low wage and enquiring about housing benefit or unemployed – low wage you would have to ask your council, unemployed the DSS sorts it out for you.
i think it is 6 months. If you have monthly wages you need to take in your last 2 wage slips or if you are on weekly last 5. then they take it from there. dont expect a quick result though local authorities are in no rush to sort it out, but at least once you have given them your paperwork & filled in the forms required you dont need to worry. hope you get this sorted soon
