I lost my job due to cut backs whilst 14 weeks pregnant, I managed to find another one but on a self employed basis so have discovered I will need to claim maternity allowance. This is only bout £120 a week obviously not enough to pay rent and all bills. Would I be entitled to housing benefit?

It depends on what your annual income would be. They’re not really allowed to take maternity allowance into consideration of your earnings, so you should be entitled to some rent and council tax rebate if not a full rebate. Each council’s criteria is slightly different but they have just changed the limits so even some people who get tax credits can get housing and council tax benefits now. All you can do is apply, but you have good prospects of a rebate.
Take care x

Housing benefit is means tested, and in most cases if Maternity allowance os your only income then yes you can claim Housing and Council tax benefit.
