Can i claim housing benefit while on incapacity benefit?

housing benefit claim

Thanks, one more question -
i read If you’re single and aged under 25 you can only get Housing Benefit for bed-sit accommodation or one room in shared accommodation. Would that still be the case if im on incapacity benefit and disabled?
I’m on income support at the moment but will be going on incapacity benefit in a few months, by which time i’ll need to find a place to live as im still living at home.

Yes you can. Go to your local authority tomorrow and put in a form. DON’T leave it as it won’t be back dated any further than the date you put it in.

onto your councils website and housing benefit. You can work out what you
will get.The sooner you apply will be the date your paid from.

in answer to your first question, incapacity benefit, yes, you are on ”a beneit” of some sort, so therefore you are entitled, as long as that is your only income.

In answer to your second question, they changed the law a few months ago, if you are under 25, you are now entitled to full rate housing benefit.

I had that problem, and had to wait til my 25th birthday, last octobe, but i chose to move in with my partner, as a joint claim, gives you full rate benefit, i then found out, they changed the law, and so, i didn’t need to move in with my partner, AS I WAS ENTITLED TO FULL RATE.

So you are entitled, to housing benefit, at the full rate, i know quite a lot about this, if you ever need another answer, just ask me.
