i am renting a house off my partner’s auntie and i’m currently out of work due to sickness, although i am still officially employed, my partner is self employed and has had no work for a couple of months now. we are struggling to keep up with the rent payments and was wondering if we could make a claim for housing benefit to assist us through these difficult times.

YOU did not volunteer your country
but if in the US, of course, seek
welfare. For the UK, I know they have
an equivalent.
Yes you can…if you are renting an apartment you can ask for assistance *are you in America?*
Though if you are employed and making above your state’s statutory poverty guidelines you may be eligable for your partner to receive aid and assitance…not you. So check with the eligability requirements in your State needed to get welfare/food stamps…etc.
If you are in America go to your local town hall or Child and Family Services.
I’m in NH and there’s a NH Housing program that pays 50%+ of people’s rents in apartments if they have a low level of income.
Yeah, my sister in law had to do this when she was renting an apartment from her parents.
YES – Who you are renting from does not matter much to get assistance- they look at your income.
