Can I claim Housing Benefit if I earn under a certain amount each week?

housing benefit claim

My job is just 12 hours per week, so I have the same money after my rent is paid as I would on benefits. But I want to keep my job.
After my rent is paid I have £50 left to live on. So a little under Jobseekers Allowance rate.
My job is paying roughly £10 per hour after tax is taken out.

they will ask to see the last six weeks wages slips and base the ammount you get on those

Sounds like that job must be paying really well if you can afford to pay your rent and still have as much as you would get on jsa. after only 12 hours work.
The obvious answer to this is contact your council and apply, there is nothing to lose and you may gain.
The council will take account of how much you have coming in and how much you have to pay in rent and council tax – and then decide whether you have enough left to live on.
I have to say they are not particularly generous. If you are only working twelve hours, paying your rent and c tax and have £60 left over I would stay in the job, you may get extra hours and then you’d be laughing. In the meantime you have ‘enough’ as the benefits people say, to live on and plenty of time to do your own thing.

If your take home pay is £120pw and your rent is £70pw you should get approx £37pw Housing Benefit and a small amount of Council Tax Benefit. This is presuming you are over 25. Under 25 would be less HB as it is paid at a lower rate.
