Affordable housing for all Australians?
Enough is Enough, for a country as rich and as big as Australia the citizens who vote the govements in are not being looked after.
Why are average home price in Sydney is over 500000 dollars, is this a joke ?
how can first home buyers or even middle class (under 50K salary) person ever afford to buy a house. ?
How can you be on single income with your wife looking after the kids ever afford a home with this high price?
Do the government want its voters/citizens to Take huge loans to profit the banks and others and slave the citizens for the rest of there lives ?
When you buy your first home did you know that you get ripped off by everyone involved in the industry, firstly by the owner who inflates the price colluding with the Agent then all the government taxes stamp duty legal costs then finally comes the Banks who lend more than the average person can afford and put them in real trouble financial slavery basically for the rest of there lives. does government know this is happening ?
Average citizen is being ripped of and put in financial hardship for the rest of there lives. Private sector institutions from Transport companies , real-estate agents, property developer to the homeowners all are colluding to ripe of the average citizen why does this happen why governments are not protecting vulnerable groups in our society?
Average citizen can not even choose to rent because again the rental market is also inflated, this is not a WIN WIN situation for anyone.
We are getting to a situation where average income earner is not able to rent or buy a house or live in major city of Australia.
The mostly affected portion of the population are low-income earners and first home owners they have no choice , they have pay high a price for a accommodation either way buying or renting.
Can we get the private sector to help with this no way they look after there own interest they do not have public,moral,humane responsibility to look after the citizens this is the responsibility of our government.
We need governments to think for the future plan for the future, all levels of government Federal state local councils aligned with common goals and objectives for future expansions.
MY proposal if implemented will be model for the future government ,
I want this government to focus on providing affordable housing(under $150000 AUS) for the one of the biggest underprivileged group of our society who are also the major constituent of the population , taxpayers and also voters. they are the first homeowners, middle/low income earners .
these projects should be government managed and on a not for profit basis.
I know there are such big projects by the private sector in the west but these private sector funded projects are not in the business of providing social responsibility and moral obligation for the under privileged.
They are the primary culprits who ripe of the average citizen why cant our government look after us. Also major reason many do not go live out in the west is the problem of adequate fast transport to and from work , from leisure activities etc.
People in the west say Penrith on average spend over 2.3 hours commuting to and from work each day, they then spend on huge amount of money on tolls to the motor way and pay lots on fuel…WHY??? why cant this rich country such as ours look after the major percentage and taxpayer of the population (low ,middle income earners)
I want this government to work/ with or force all levels of government to provide affordable housing for the low-income earner (under $150000 ) also Transportation should be provided in such a away that the person travelling from these outer suburbs(say over 50Kilometes from the city) should be able to travel in to work at most by 30 minutes (this has to be done for this project to work ) because people do not want to travel long-time to and back from work.
May be look at other countries how they have solved many of there problem in a affordable way. may be invest in bullet trains that can travel at 300 km/h to get people to and from these mega cities Fast. (look in to china with there problems being 100 times the scale of our problem may be they do things better than us learn from them how they solve there transport problems, there housing problems there health care problems may be there are clues there that can help us solve many of the problems we see in our society)
Planning development of these housing projects should take in to account
-> Environmental factors (e.g recycling solar , rainwater etc)
-> Transport
-> Healthcare
-> Parks
-> Schooling
The benefits are huge firstly you create these mega projects lots of jobs for the local industry, secondly you reduce density for the already over crowded intercity, and most importantly you will see a levelling off in the rises of property prises in the intercity suburbs as people would rather live outer west w
This model can be replicated for all the major cities and push densely populated population to the outer suburbs.
This all possible on if government have a vision and focus and deliver on the projects that people can see real benefit.
If a government can act this way there will be no Third world politics (people overboard, UTEGATE) at play in the parliament. A government that is delivering and growing the nation will always be elected by majority , because at he ground level where everything happens people can see real benefit that they can measure.
Summary
-> i want this government to develop scalable housing projects for the underprivileged class (under 150,000 land and home) on not for profit basis (note this is not subsidised housing) ( don’t really care how this has be to done but this is the objective and implemented if you want to house these people)
-> Develop very fast public transport that is affordable (under 30 minutes for a trip over 50 kilometres from the

The issue at hand is not government to create affordable house – but the average worker to realize that he needs to start with a small place in a not so nice area and move up. Like his/her parents did. There are bedsits fro under 210K in Sydney – start with one of them. Then after a couple of years, move to a 290K 1-2 bed flat, then a house etc. Or get a house in the outer suburb (Goulburn/Central Coast/BMountains) and commute – 1000s of people do that, they dont like it, they would prefer to live in the city but they made the decision in order to buy a house in the city in a few year.
Dont want to do that? Then you have made your decision. Have a family and cant live in a bedsit-you made your bed, your father would not have proposed until he could have afforded a deposit on a home, but the under 35s (yes I am in that age bracket) wanted to have the cafe and icing now – now they are complaining that they cant afford an oven.
The Government can probably do some more to assist, but the biggest problem is that people want to live close to capital cities. Until more people are happy living in Lithgow, Goulburn, Maitland and Jamberoo and travel into Sydney to work then house prices will never reach the level that I believe you are hoping for.
The government already provides public housing to those who are unemployed and quite simply I don’t believe they are in the position to help any more beyond the first home owners grant and waiving stamp duty. As a general rule, if you spend more than 33% of your wage on housing (mortgage or rent) then you are living outside your means.
I bought my first house 3 years ago in a fast growing regional/rural area some 500km from the capital city. I expect that if I lived in Sydney, there would be no way I could afford to even rent there! I don’t believe there would be any way the government could develop non profit scalable housing because private investors and developers are prepared to pay BIG dollars for their piece of the housing market.
Ultimately people, businesses and government departments need to look at other areas to live, work and operate a business outside capital cities. There is no reason your business couldn’t be in Dubbo, Tamworth or Deniliquin – and these towns need more people anyway! This would be the ultimate WIN WIN situation for everyone.
