A question about conveyancing and getting it done by a solicitor abroad?

Well I am just about to buy my house but a friend of mine has told me that i can get my conveyancing work done by a firm of solicitors based in India? He said its a fraction of the price and they are all legally certified to carry out the necessary documentation? Anyone know if this is the case?

    A veritable minefield possum,rem,ember one thing,they are not bound by the same constrictions and rules as in the UK .To be relatively safe it is wisest to issue all your requirements and instructions in writing,in the language of the country you will be making the purchase,in most this is a legal requirement to be enforceable.This means telling them to do searches of the land registries,local planning offices,utilities and anything else you can dream up,including the local town hall and tax offices to see if there are any hidden taxes ,charges or fees that are not readily apparent.Regarding who you use,i would use a local firm recommended by mouth from established ex pats,this way you should be relatively safe.

    Do not do it. If it worked everyone would be doing it. Local solicitors have the contacts and can phone up each other to sort out any problems. Can you imagine anyone trying to understand the Indian accent, and what about the documents and money? When you buy a house the Solicitor has your money and hands it over to the other side, how on earth would that be done. What about the Deeds, are they going to be sent across the world and come back again. I have bought 5 houses and your scenario would be a nightmare.

    Hint – don’t touch it with a barge pole

    Laws regarding house purchase are very different from country to country, even Scottish Law regarding house purchase is different to the rest of the UK

    This so called conveyancing lawyer and his law firm , will not be regulated by the UK,and you could end up broke and with no property.

    You cannot do this, the language barrier alone will drive you crazy. It possibly can be done but would take longer and could jeopardize the sale/purchase.

    You can compare conveyancing solicitors online to get more favorable fee’s.
